Winter Wonderland

Inspired by Sarah Von at yes and yes, I just wanted to say that it may be January, it may be cold, it may be dark, but you're stuck with winter, and just like everything else you have no control over, you may as well find ways to enjoy it. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Find a warm, cute coat. This way, you never really have to worry about exactly how cold it is, and you never have to show up to a party feeling like you look like the abominable snowman. If a nice coat is out of your price range, put your focus on accessories. Find the perfect hat. Get a chunky scarf. Make a pair of those fingerless gloves. Whatever makes you just a little happier about getting bundled up to go out.

2. Find tea, coffee, or hot chocolate to love. I'm talking about the good stuff. Something special you can curl up around when the wind is blowing and the heater just can't keep up as well as you'd like.

3. Start a snowball fight. Or go sledding. Both are great workouts and the nostalgia can make you remember why you didn't hate winter as a kid.

4. Make traditions. Maybe the reason we like winter in December is because it's a signal that soon, we'll be tied up in all those Holiday traditions we enjoy. The trip to buy the tree. The drive to see the lights. The eggnog with family. So what if you were to make January twenty-third your day to rope the fam into playing board games. Or the day to take a friend shopping in Chicago. Or the day to make cookies with your grandma.

5. Set a goal. Like, "By the time it hits fifty, I will have trained myself to do twenty (non-girly style) push ups." Or whatever you think will keep your mind off the temperature - and even hoping the cold weather keeps up a little longer so you have more time to reach your goal.

But don't stop at winter pick-me-ups. Anytime your life doesn't seem very shiny, stop, think of ways to turn things around, and put them into action!

  1. Great ideas! I guess this would be a bad time to mention it was 68 yesterday and we ran around the park in short sleeves? :)

  2. If I'm not mistaken, that's fake snow behind you in your profile pic, is it not? You're just jealous. :)

  3. You have wounded me. And I am totally working on getting a better pic...not crazy about that one. (By the way, what tipped you off? The deer behind us?)
